Following lengthy talks, Bazan's takeover of fellow Spanish shipbuilding, repair and conversion group Astilleros Espanoles (AESA) has now been completed. The new Bazan now operates eight newbuildings shipyards, five repair and conversions yards, and three manufacturing plants, for two-stroke/four-stroke diesel engines and steam and gas turbines. It was reported before the takeover was completed that Bazan would start with a Pta638bn ($3.67bn) orderbook, sales prospects of Pta225bn (74% exports), and employ 11,173 staff in 12 shipyards located around the country, both on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.
