ASBPA's 2010 National Coastal Conference, "Celebrating the Diversity of the Coast," convenes in Charleston, South Carolina, 12-15 October. More than 200 participants are expected from around the U.S. and abroad. There will be 80 presentations on topics ranging from shore protection and restoration to regional sediment management and coastal policy.rnThe program will offer practical solutions as well as probing insight with some provocative themes. Jim Houston, Ph.D., and Robert Dean, Ph.D., will discuss whether the rate of sea level rise is increasing based on Gulf Coast tide gauge records. Michael Walther will review the evolution of coastal structures' use and policy, and Cameron Perry will explain how participants can become more effective advocates for science-based coastal policy.
