The chapter held its eighth annual scholarship awards dinner in May at the Waters Edge Events Center in Belcamp, Maryland. The event offers a chance to recognize local students and educators who have received chapter STEM grants and scholarships. This year, the chapter presented three Science Teacher Toolkit Awards; five Scholarships, Tools, Equipment and Mentors Awards; two Community College Transfer Scholarships; and six high school graduate scholarships. For this academic year alone, the chapter has obligated more than $80,000 in awards, which includes scholarships, educator awards and donations to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties. This total includes a new $8,000 Cyber Defense Certificate Scholarship for Harford Community College, formally announced at the awards dinner. Since its inception, the chapter has provided more than $354,000 in education funds to the community. Larry Muzzelo, deputy to the commanding general, U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, delivered the dinner's keynote speech. He discussed the Army's plans to develop the next generation of science and technology leaders, given the aging workforce. The induction of the chapter's new executive committee for 2018-19 rounded out the night.
