This book is based on a collection of papers presented at a conference organized by the Indian Ocean Group and held in Muscat in 2007. The book reflects the concerns of the editors about declining stocks of wild fish in the Indian Ocean, falling catches by some capture fisheries and loss of marine biodiversity. The prime problem is seen as increasing effort both nationally and internationally to utilize fish stocks in the Indian Ocean and it is predicted that this effort will intensify.
