摘要

An opening gambit-Globalization and the Post-Creole Imagination is among the most thoughtful-and challenging-theoretical texts to emerge on the Caribbean in the last 20 years, and I would put it in a select company inhabited by two texts published a year apart, a decade ago-Paget Henry's Caliban's Reason (2000) and David Scott's Refashioning Futures (1999). Its argument might rest on a textured interrogation of the term "creolization", but it makes forays into critical areas of Caribbean scholarship, including diaspora studies, citizenship studies, the study of space and performance, transnationalism and resistance. Little of Caribbean social and political thought and cultural criticism is left untouched along the way, and it is hard not to believe that the multiple contributions/challenges that Crichlow presents will not resonate in the field for some time to come.
