This paper utilised data from a convenience sample of working age Jamaicans to explore dimensions of their attitudes towards homosexuals. The results confirm strong negative attitudes towards homosexuals and suggested alignment with attitudes emanating from sources as distinct as the church, the state and the proponents of popular culture (Dancehall DJs). The paper argues that such attitudes are socially and economically unsustainable and that their pervasiveness derives from a strain of hegemonic masculinity that supports the oppression of less powerful groups even while it threatens the viability of the overall economy and society.%Cet article s'est servi de données provenant d'un échantillon aléatoire de jamaïcains en âge de travailler pour explorer les dimensions de leurs attitudes envers les homosexuels.
