We have prepared a novel organic anionic weak acceptor, 2-aminomethylsulfo-3,5,6-trichloro-1,4-benzoquinone (1), as a PPh_4 salt. Cyclic voltammetry indicates that its reduction potential is 0.53 V lower than that of chloranil. Electrocrystallisation with BEDT-TTF gave two salts, β-β-(BEDT-TTF)_2(1)·0.5H_2O (2) and β″-(BEDT-TTF)_2(1)·CH_3OH (3). Their crystal structures and physical properties are reported.
