Having worked in the U.S. defense business for 40 years, I have a bit of unsolicited advice for the new commander-in-chief. I was an ICBM crew commander before I went on to develop ICBMs as an Air Force acquisition professional — essentially, I was a customer first. This experience showed me the importance of the timely fielding of new weapon systems and the difficulties in ensuring that these systems give the warfighter what they need to do their duty and deter potential adversaries.
