The U.S. government should develop a national plan for addressing climate change and play a leadership role in global efforts to find solutions to address this vitally important issue, Alexis Livanos, vice president and chief technology officer for Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corp., said in an April 1 speech in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the National Space Symposium.rn"This is a global problem and we need sustained engagement in this global commons. Not every nation is equipped to play an equal role in its solution," Livanos said. "The developed world must step up to the plate. Our nation must bring to bear its extraordinary tradition of innovation and unbridled creativity."rnBecause climate change is such a complex problem, efforts to address it must be multifaceted. While space-based sensors will be an important aspect of any effort that seeks to understand the complexities of global climate issues, technology alone cannot solve the problem, Livanos said.
