The European Commission on July 1 issued a request for industry to bid on the Galileo satellite navigation system, confirming that non-European Union subcontractors will be barred from bidding except in "exceptional circumstances."The commission, along with the European Space Agency (ESA), has set an Aug. 7 deadline for companies to signal their interest in the program. The commission and ESA will establish a list of the most credible candidate bidders by around Aug. 19 before sending out formal requests for bids from these companies.
