Broadband Internet Access is growing. In Europe about 10% of the Internet connections are broadband. In almost all cases, ADSL is the technology used. Satellite solutions are offered as well, mainly for locations outside of the terrestrial reach. It is expected that this digital divide will increase in the extended Europe. Satellite solutions are fast but at least five times more expensive than terrestrial connections. This increases the digital divide even more. In this paper, the satellite technologies are reviewed and solutions are presented to provide Satellite Broadband Internet Access, which are competitive with terrestrial solutions.
