摘要

January 2011 marked the seventh anniversary of the safe landing of the Opportunity Mars Exploration Rover (MER). Fittingly, the rover was perched at the lip of Santa Maria Crater, which simultaneously offered stunningly beautiful vistas and a scientific bonanza (Spaceflight, February 2011, p60). Opportunity celebrated another remarkable milestone - 2500 Sols (Martian days), roving the red planet shortly thereafter. Together with her twin sister Spirit, the NASA rovers surely rank as one of the greatest feats in the annals of space exploration.
