With a subtitle "The Untold Story of the African American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race", this is a movie with a message: that we humans can achieve great things if we set aside our prejudices and work together. Hidden Figures tells the story of the African-American women who played a vital role in the early US space programme. It focuses on three women who started as human "computers", calculating trajectories for satellites and the early Mercury missions at the NASA Langley Research Center, the renamed Langley Aeronautical Research Laboratory, established in 1917 at Hampton, Virginia as one of the first facilities of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
