In this overtly polemical and righteously contrary book, Jeremy Keenan - a professorial research associate at the University of London's School of Oriental Studies who has spent considerable time in the Sahara and Sahel region - forcefully argues that the United States has, through its aggressive support for regional governments, perversely pushed local populations closer to al-Qaeda and affiliated groups. He also asserts that Washington has conspired with North African governments to facilitate 'false-flag' terrorist attacks as a pretext for increasing what he calls an imperial US presence in the region.
