The essays in this edited volume present a broad range of perspectives on the evolution of the concept of security, on divergent approaches to perceived threats, and on post-Cold War security strategies. Consistent with what seems to have become conventional wisdom, editors Giampiero Giacomello and R. Craig Nation assert that 'the quasi-hegemonic status achieved by the U.S. in the immediate wake of the Cold War now appears to have been more transient than originally expected', and predict that the European conception of security will remain 'significantly different from that which has been dominant in the U.S.'.
