If you occasionally use live traps to capture squirrels, skunks, raccoons, and other mammals or birds, you know that trapped animals can turn the trap over and escape. Sometimes, a trap will fall off of a roof or ledge, startling (and maybe injuring) animals and people. Since cage traps have no anchoring system, it's up to you to figure out the best way to hold or secure the trap. Anchoring the trap in place can prevent these problems and can also cut down on theft and vandalism of your traps. Anchoring the trap also keeps it from misfiring or being too tipsy, spooking the animal. The larger your trap and target animal, the more secure your anchoring method must be. Some of these same methods will also work for anchoring rodent bait stations.
