摘要

The finite element method is used, from a structural point of view, to the analysis and design of external fixators for fractures in human bones. The basic aspects of bone formation as an structural material, as well as the most common fractures encountered in the Venezuelan medical practice are discussed. The 3D geometries of the designed devices were generated in high performance computers, by using specially designed commercial software for such purposes. The stress levels produced in the biomedical devices by the biological loading, obtained with the finite element method, is also presented and discussed in detail.
