摘要

Collection Development and Management for the 21s' Century is an ideal way to introduce someone new to libraries to the intricacies of collection development and management as well as the emerging issues and trends that libraries are currently facing. The book begins with how technology and globalization have changed the ways libraries develop general collections and then gets into more detail about the day-to-day work of collection management, including assessing user needs, marketing collections, creating collection development policies, selecting resources, acquiring materials, budgeting, and assessing collections. The book then veers into higher-level topics including collaborative collection development, legal issues, professional ethics, intellectual freedom, preservation, and the future of collection development. The flow of the book gives the reader both a micro and macro view of modern collection development.
