A survey of packaging for wet wipes reports that the industry has largely adopted voluntary guidelines for the labelling of products that require careful disposal by consumers. On behalf of the Brussels, Belgium-based EDANA, the survey checked 229 individual packages on sale in 11 countries. The international association for the nonwovens and related industries reports that more than 90% of those the guidelines recommend should carry a standard symbol to show how to correctly dispose of the wipe are compliant. The survey sample contained 73 products where the guidelines required a pack of wipes (including baby wipes, toilet cleaners and feminine wipes) to carry the symbol: 66 showed a visible symbol indicating the correct way to dispose of them; only four had neither a symbol nor text to advise the consumer.
