In July 2013, a lump of food fat mixed with nonwoven-based wet wipes said to be the size of a bus and weighing 15 t was removed from a sewer in London, UK (see above). The UK's biggest ever so-called "fatberg" formed in drains under a road in the area of Kingston-upon-Thames. The blockage was discovered when residents in nearby flats complained they could not flush their toilets, and the company responsible for water and sewerage in the area, Thames Water said that if it had not removed the blockage there would have been sewage flooding homes, streets and businesses.
