Textile membranes are becoming increasingly popular, especially for large-dimension, weight-critical, technical structures, such as unsupported convertible roofs of hangars or stadiums (Fig. 1), temporary structures, large-volume media storage tanks, and membrane mainsails in the sailing sports sector. From an architectural point of view, textile membranes offer another great advantage: their enormous flexibility results in various possibilities for mounting and inflating with air, thus enabling the creation of organic-looking freeform surfaces.
