Strengthening its focus on the use of carbon fiber the car producer BMW AG, Munich/ Germany, secured a 15% stake in SGL Carbon SE, Wiesbaden/Germany. The aim is further the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) in automobile manufacture for lighter weight vehicles. BMW and SGL are already collaborating successfully in the framework of a joint venture, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers LLC, and together in building a state-of-the-art carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, WA/USA.
