This article details the Oeko-Tex point of view for the performance of emission testing for car interior parts and deriving appropriate limiting values.rnWith its 40~(th) anniversary pending, OETI has already dedicated 20 years to the improvement of health and environmental performance of textile products. First with its OETN 100 normative document and for 15 years now by the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 which it cofounded. One thing clear form the very beginning was the existence and relative importance of uptake routes for harmful substances by humans. The most important route in general is digestion, followed by inhalation and finally the skin. From a clothing and textile point of view, the relative importance is quite the other way round. Skin contact is the prevailing mode over oral intake even for articles like towels and more so for real clothing. For such products inhalation is negligible and digestion just accidental. To give detail its right, there are exceptions to make for babies and textile residues in form of dust might have a case sometimes.
