Gaming today is a large part of the lives of most students. Whether on a mobile phone, gaming console, or computer, electronic gaming is just about everywhere. Board games are thought of by some as a thing of the past, but it can be argued that building board games is a valuable step in electronic game creation. For technology classrooms that thrive on low-tech approaches, the hands-on approach to modifying and eventually building a fully playable custom board game provides a creative outlet that is rewarding as well. It also allows students opportunities to research viable topics/themes for games as well as to understand and create complex games and rules prior to working in a digital environment.
