Piggybacking on the demand for High-def TVs, a number of manufacturers have been offering DVD players with upscaling capabilities these days. Philips DVP5996K is also one from such breed, but it does everything slightly better than its other counterparts. This DVD player looks sleek in its black casing, and curved edges and the metal border just add a tinge of attractiveness to it. All connectivity ports are at the rear while the USB port is up front. This player offers all HD resolutions, you can easily select the one which suits your display the best, but while upscaling, you need to use the HDMI cable that comes in the box itself. We tested the full 1080p feature and the picture reproduction was crisp and clear.
