With digital cameras, the first thing that comes to mind is megapixels. And unfortunately, millions of dollars spent by companies on advertising the 'megapixel myth' has brainwashed us all into thinking that more megapixels translates into a better image. Actually, this couldn't be further from the truth. My old 3.2 megapixel prosumer cam clicked far better pictures than most of the 10 megapixel compact cameras out there today, and the reason for that is simple; the physical size of the sensor was the same. Cramming more megapixels into a sensor ultimately leads to increased noise levels, loss of detail, poor color reproduction and lower light sensitivity.
