Has Cabletron Made the Right Move? Recently Cabletron announced that founder and current CEO Bob Levine would step down. Levine has been a colorful figure in the industry and was in no small measure a force in Cabletron's gutsy independence in the marketplace (an independence which, incidentally, got them into serious trouble with archrival Cisco). But the company's go-it-alone strategy has not been without its drawbacks, and they've recently been losing ground as Cisco and 3Com have continued in Monopoly-board fashion to gobble up vendors in just about every imaginable market space. Replacing Levine is Don Reed, a Nynex veteran of some 30 years.
