Acting on its own motion and in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FCC's Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau has granted a temporary, limited waiver of the agency's rules so that video relay service (VRS) providers may contract for video interpretation services with entities that are not themselves VRS providers eligible for reimbursement from the federal TRS (telecommunications relay service) Fund. In an order adopted April 3 in CG dockets 03-123 and 10-51, the bureau said the temporary waiver took effect with the release of the order and will remain in effect until May 15, the same expiration date as waivers previously granted to enable TRS communications assistants (CAs) to work from home rather than at call centers (TR, March 20).
