摘要

The San Marcos River exhibits a distinct pattern of changing chemical and physical characteristics as it runs its 133 km course to the confluence with the Guadalupe River. This evolution of water quality includes a shift from a primary influence of groundwater to a more runoff-dominated river ecosystem, anthropogenic influences of point and nonpoint pollution, and change in character as the river flows through different physiographic regions. The river is of a constant nature and has very high water quality in its headwaters, however it becomes a more variable, turbid lowland river closer to its confluence with the Guadalupe River.
