摘要

Textile pnnting is the most common process for decorating fabrics. It can be regarded as a process for fabric dyeing that ensures the application of dye to precise locations on the fabric. Printing is an applied art with a long history .going back before weaving or embroidery. Printing predates embroidery and its development is still continuing. Besides dye, thickener also plays an integral part inprinting, without which printing cannot be done. Thickeners are generally higher-molecular-weight compounds giving viscous paste in water. The viscosity of the printing paste is important; it influences the clarity and appearance of the printed pattern. The main function of the thickener is to act as an agent that blocks capillary action through its viscosity and adhesive nature, thus preventing the dye from spreading beyond the limits of the defined portion in the pattern. While steaming, the ad- hesive nature of the thickener holds the dye particles while the fabric becomes saturated with steam and the chemical reactions take place, giving the dye good fastness properties.
