Nylon fibre can be dyed with vat dyes more effectively in presence of phenolic solvent. This may be due to the swelling effect which facilitates the penetration of vat dye particles inside the fibre structure. This has been confirmed by the various physico-mechanical properties such as wettability, moisture regain, molecular weight, surface area and tensile strength. The solvent dyeing conditions should be controlled in such a way that maximum depth is obtained with minimum physical degradation of fibre.
