China is strengthening measures that will compel the textile industry and other manufacturing sectors to abandon production methods that are not eco-friendly. Eighteen industries including chemical fibre manufacturing, dyeing and printing, have been targeted as priority areas according to a list issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information. Industrial plants that do not give up production processes that are harmful to public health and the ecosystem, which China describes by the unique term "backward production capacity", will not receive any form of credit support from banks and other financial institutions. They will also not qualify for any land allocation by the Bureau of Land Resources Administration for factory expansion. Some 2,255 industrial ventures nationwide are said to be currently on notice to discard pollution-causing processes and adopt green production methods.
