The apparel flagship of the Saha Group, ICC International PLC plans to ride the coat-tails of the Olympic Games by spending 5-10% of this year's local revenue from its Speedo swimwear unit on marketing, says Chailert Manoonpol, second vice-president. The firm hopes to increase 2008 sales by 20% to 240 million baht (approx US$7.2 million), but not only through polishing the brand image-it wants to finish the year with five new standalone outlets, particularly in such tourist areas as Phuket and Pattaya, thus doubling the current inventory. There is no sign of any intention to collaborate with department stores. With an annual production capacity of two million pieces, Speedo hopes to increase export sales since Thailand appears to be gaining some respect overseas. At home Speedo leads the pack in the 680-million-baht swimwear market with a share close to 30%, ahead of Triumph (25%) and Arena (20%). Now it is aiming to increase its share of the fashion swimwear market since this is larger than that for functional swimwear.
