China Customs reports exports of textiles and clothing during 2004 as US$95.13b worth, up 20.6%. Imports totalled $16.85b, up 7.8%. Exports during the first three quarters showed steady increase, with average monthly totals of $6.27b, $7.6b and $9.16b respectively. The monthly average for the 4* quarter showed a slight decline at $8.67b. The growth rate for February and March reached 30%. 2004 was a remarkable year for textile and garment exports, and imports with a combined total up by 100% over five years ago and exports up 180% over 2000. The trade surplus on textile and garment exports totalled $78.3b, up 23.8%, including a trade surplus on textiles totalling $18.2b and a trade surplus of $60.1b on garments, up 19%.
