Bangkok Fashion City is now under going its first redesign, starting at the top. The new executive director Pramode Vidtayasuk, a textile engineer with a degree from a Japanese university, is the director-general of the Department of Industrial Promotion of the Ministry of Industry, which means that he has been overseeing the textile, garment, jewellery and leather industries. The BFC management structure has been scaled down and the committee halved to 15 members, so everything is now in place to carry the project through. Chakramon Phasukvanich, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, says that, while there will be some policy changes, Mr Pramode is essentially being assigned to speed up BFC's implementation, particularly in respect of four of the 11 programs still on the starting blocks - fashion trend-setters, fashion design contest, image development and footwear/leatherware competitiveness. Initially the government's objective was to complete the project by September this year, but that date now appears to be a year too soon.
