Total exports in quarter one (July-September 2005) showed an increase of 19.9% over the same quarter of 2004, rising from US$3.5 billion to $4.2 billion. This is 3% over the target of $4 billion. In September alone exports aggregated $1.5 billion, showing a 35% increase over September 2004. As usual, exports of textiles and garments made the highest contribution at 62% or $2.6 billion as against $2.2 billion in July-September 2004. Within the textile sector, garments fetched $814 million with a high share of 19.5%, showing an increase of 8%. Woven garment exports surged by 106% to $351 million from $171 million. Knitwear however lost ground by 20%, sliding from $582 million to $463 million.
