The Statistics Centre of the China Na- tional Textile Industry Council reports imports and exports of textiles and garments in 2003 as totalling US$96.07m worth, up24,15% and making up 11.29% of the national total. Of this amount, exports of textiles and garments totalled $80,484m, up 27.72% and 18.3% of national total exports. This included exports of textiles worth $28,567m, up 30.87%, and garment exports worth $51, 916m, up 26.04%. Imports of textiles and garments in 2003 totalled$15,586m, up 8.47% and representing 3.78% of national total imports. Imports of textiles totalled $14,183m, up 8.8%, and of garments $ 1,403m, up 5.0%. Top destinations for textile and clothing exports from China remained Hong Kong, Japan and the US, with exports to Hong Kong totalling $15,387m, up 19.04%; to Japan totalling $15,222m, up 12.51%, and to the US totalling $9,669m, up 29.41%. These three destinations took 50.04% of the total exports of textiles and garments in 2003, with a combined total of $40,278m.
