摘要

The above discussion of fire-protective textiles brings to light the various developments in the field of fire-resistant fabrics. It can be seen that innumerable types of flame and heat-resistant fibres are available; as also durable flame-retardant finishes. However it is necessary to make a choice of right kind of fabrics, keeping the end use in mind. Further, the ASTM and NFPA testing standards take care of the performance assessment of these fabrics. It is essential that the Indian Government too enact stringent legislation to make the common man conscious of the fire-hazards and the need to use fire-retardant fabrics whether at home or workplace. So also it is required that the clothing manufacturers develop cost-effective, non-toxic garments that provide the required fire and thermal protection, together with greater comfort and breathability.
