Joseph C. Shivers is this year's recipient of The Olney Medal for achievement in textile chemistry. A native of Moorestown, N.J., Shivers received a BS with honors in 1942, an MA in 1943, and a PhD in organic chemistry in 1946 from Duke University. He worked for DuPont from 1946-1980 and retired as technical director of the fibers department. While working at DuPont, he was also an instructor with Canisius College.
