Man's yearning for beauty motivates him to introduce grace and elegance into the monotony and drabness of everyday life, which leads gradually to new decorative designs through fine form and colour. In the modern society in which there is competition for material success, the personal costume has a special role to play. A good personal appearance can be achieved by taking advantage of the abundant means that civilization offers. Of late, with the influence of Western culture, young school and college-going girls in India have started wearing tops and trousers. Trouser tops are distinctively Western and reflect English woman's skill in designing. Tops are being worn all over the world and these are the most popular college dress among girls. The present fashion trends should complement today's life style with economy, comfort, simplicity and style, and true fashion is a fusion of the past and the present. Therefore, a study was undertaken to explore the idea of cost-effective production of trouser tops, with a view to popularizing the art of sewing which can be adopted by small-scale industries.
