The US trade deficit probably grew in January to the second largest ever as increased spending by consumers and businesses spurred demand for foreign goods, economists said in advance of a government report this week. The gap between imports and exports may have widened to $56.5 billion in the first month of the year, from $56.4 billion in December, according to the median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. The deficit would be second only to the record $59.3 billion reached in November.
