On 26 September 2018, Scottish Region members enjoyed a memorable day and site visit to Galashiels, Scottish Borders. Leaving from Edinburgh, nine of our group took the opportunity to travel by rail, others by car. Rail enthusiasts will know that the former famous Waverley Route, Edinburgh to Carlisle, was controversially axed in 1969, following Dr Beeching's Report. Stations were closed, track Lifted and parts sold off. After many campaigns, the Northern section between Tweedbank, GalashieLs and Edinburgh was reinstated three years ago and formally opened by HM Queen Elizabeth.
