Using its data service, the SMMT can analyse historical records of over 200 million vehicles, using over 80 data fields, each capable of reporting by region, town or postcode. 1.The total number of cars on UK roads increased by 0.7% last year to 31,258,197. Scotland and south west England increased by four percent since 2005, while Greater London and the north west have both declined. 2. Average CO_2 emissions of new cars have dropped by 15% over the past five years. Chesterfield tops the low emitting cars chart, with 29% of cars on the road emitting less than 140g/km of CO_2; Plymouth is the worst with 19%.
