摘要

It's night and you are about to pull out of a T-junction to turn to the right. Traffic is approaching from the left, but the view to the right is clear. You judge there is sufficient time to pull out and do so. There is a colossal bang and your car is pushed sideways to the right: a motorcyclist! At no time did you see him. An experienced motorist will not look directly at a headlamp but narrowly at a point just to one side. Prior to commencing the manoeuvre, he will check to the right once more, and then briefly to the left to confirm that nothing has changed.
