Since Pacific Can's acquisition of a beverage can plant at Zhaoqing, it has been refining the efficiencies of its operations, says chief executive Glenn Yee. The Zhaoqing plant, bought from Rexam almost two years ago, is now one of six plants in China with total capacity of more than seven billion cans a year. Commenting on Pacific Can's latest acquisition, Yee said: "We liked the location, because it gave us the chance to improve our footprint and extend our coverage to the South. Previously, our nearest plant to the vibrant Guangdong region was in Fujian. From here, we can reach all the major beer and beverage producers in the Guangdong, Guanxi and Yunnan province. So even in a relatively difficult time where we saw overcapacity from so many new plants, this acquisition nevertheless fits our strategy."
