Sales of canned food in the UK increased last year, according to data compiled by Canned Food UK, an organisation backed by canmakers, canners and canstock manufacturers. Sales of canned foods grew by £104.3m ($160m) year-on-year to £2.4bn ($3.68bn) in 2012, representing an increase of 4.6 percent. This exceeded the growth of the total grocery market, which increased by 3.6 percent. In total 3.2bn cans of food were sold, with 26.2m households -or 99.2 percent of the UK population-buying canned foods.
