Aiming to limit atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is a risky route to avoiding dangerous climate change, according to a study published in Nature. A cumulative emissions budget of one trillion tonnes of carbon, or 3.67 teratonnes of CO_2, would be a much safer approach, it argues.rnThe budget would cover emissions from the industrial revolution up to 2500. Half of the budget has already been spent the authors say, and the rest could easily be blown before 2050.
