摘要

The meeting the 'numbers' approach to lighting does not always equate to good design. Good hospital lighting design should consider the overall lit effect on both horizontal and vertical planes in relation to the function of each space. Where possible lighting designers should consider the physiological and psychological effects that lighting can have on patients, visitors and staff. Designers should not be afraid to use different forms of lighting to create environmental 'moods' across the hospital. Waiting rooms, for example, should be made to feel more informal and relaxing for the benefit of anxious patients and for visitors under stress from seeing their loved ones in hospital. Conversely, treatment rooms should be made to feel more clinical and professional, through, for example, higher colour temperatures, in order to instil confidence in the knowledge and skill of the doctor or nurse.
