Peter Brown was born in Market Harborough in 1933 and from a young age showed a keen interest in aviation byjoining the local Air Training Corps. After a short time as a carpenter he realised his dreams and joined the RAF in the golden era of the new jet age. Training took place in Canada, and it was here that I very nearly remained just a twinkle in my father's eye, when the engine of his Harvard stopped whilst carrying out a night navigation exercise over the cold winter wasteland. He stepped out of the aircraft to bail out, but later said it was so cold he got back into the cockpit, and the engine miraculously sputtered into life. The technical explanation is not as important as the fact that he survived to father me whilst flying Hunters on 41 Squadron.
