With the advent of cheap flights and internet access, the phrase'package holiday became code for cheap, and often not cheerful, travel. However, in the face of tough economic times the average holiday budget is being squeezed, and rather than forego a week or two in the sun (or snow) people are returning to this traditional type of holiday. According to Co-operative Travel bookings for package holidays have increased by 50 per cent in the last four years.
